The 2010 Honda Insight is the Hybrid for Everyone
EXTERIOR
Everyone Appreciates a Nice Line
Family Ties
The all-new 2010 Insight shares a family resemblance with the sleek and sophisticated FCX Clarity fuel cell vehicle. The front of the car is strong and lean with eye-catching projector-beam headlights. The taller rear helps this 5-door hybrid slip easily through the air, and unique LED brakelights complete the look.
Space, Man
The Insight was designed with a low center of gravity and a generous 5-passenger cabin. Five-door access helps meet the needs of an active lifestyle. The use of smaller internal components allows for more cabin and cargo space, making the Insight family-friendly and versatile. And the Insight was designed and built from the ground up to be what it is: a hybrid.
INTERIOR
Q. What's the crucial ingredient in a hybrid car that has nothing to do with mpg?
A. FUN.
Green Screens
Half the fun of driving on less gas is listening to full sound in the all-new Insight. Standard on the LX is an AM/FM/CD audio system with four speakers, including an MP3/auxiliary input jack. A built-in Radio Data System (RDS) gives you additional information about your music. EX models add a pair of tweeters and Honda's USB Audio Interface [1]. Choose the available Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System™ with voice recognition [2] and also enjoy the factory-installed Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® [3] communication tool.
Toss it in
The all-new Insight was designed with versatility in mind. It seats five, and has five doors to match. The 60/40 split rear fold-down seatback offers maximum flexibility for people to poles to pets—and everything in between.
411 Before You
You don't have to look far for the information you need while driving. As part of its two-tier instrument panel, the Insight features a sophisticated Multi-Information Display (MID) that provides data on fuel consumption, temperature and other essentials. The MID is used as part of the Eco Assist™ [4] system for enhanced efficiency.
PERFORMANCE
Hybrid Heart
The centerpiece of the all-new Honda Insight is the latest Integrated Motor Assist IMA® system. This next-generation hybrid system benefits from everything we have learned as the first automaker to bring a hybrid to the market in the U.S., the original Insight. Compared to the system in the Civic Hybrid, the battery pack was improved, resulting in cost savings and reduced weight. Its location also allows for greater cabin space. The Insight features a highly efficient, 1.3-liter, 8-valve, i-VTEC ® 4-cylinder engine and DC-brushless electric motor, and it's equipped with a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Efficiency Booster
The unique Eco Assist ™ [1] system enables increased efficiency [2] for improved performance through two elements, an ECON™ button [1] that controls certain functions of the car, and a feedback system that lets you monitor your driving performance. Eco Scoring at the conclusion of the drive provides drivers with even more of an incentive to drive green.
SAFETY
Safety for Everyone, on the hybrid for all.
All the advanced safety features you'd expect to find in a Honda are right there in the Insight—from airbags to Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure. ACE™ body structure increases Insight passenger protection, and makes it more crash compatible with vehicles of differing ride heights. The anti-lock braking system (ABS) uses a special modulator to pulse the brakes to help prevent wheel lockup, helping the driver retain steering control when braking hard. And the Electronic Brake Distribution system (EBD) balances the braking forces at each wheel according to how the car is dynamically loaded. And those are just a few of the safety features found on the all-new Insight. Because the Insight is focused on efficiency and affordability—without sacrificing safety.
Honda's Safety Philosophy
Honda is committed to providing safety for everyone—that means crash protection not only for our own drivers and passengers, but also for other vehicle occupants, and injury mitigation for pedestrians. We are dedicated to identifying and implementing advanced designs and features that help enhance the safety of vehicles on the road. Learn more.
Tops in Safety
It all adds up to impressive safety performance. For proof, look to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, which recognized the 2010 Insight as a 2009 " Top Safety Pick."
ENVIRONMENT
Increase the hybrids, enhance the earth.
More is More
The whole idea behind the design of the Insight was to make hybrid technology accessible to a greater number of people. And more hybrids replacing conventional gas engine vehicles out on the road can only improve things for the environment.
To that end, the Insight was designed for excellent fuel economy [1], of course, but the goal was also practicality and affordability. With an EPA-estimated 43 mpg [1], the AT-PZEV-rated [2] Insight ranks as one of the more efficient cars out there.
Flower Power
EPA numbers are important, but the way you drive also affects the fuel economy [1] you achieve. The Insight features a remarkable new system that helps boost your efficiency and monitor your own driving habits to maximize your mpg for your driving conditions. It's called Eco Assist™ [3] and it includes a green ECON™ button [3] that, when pressed, regulates certain vehicle functions to maximize efficiency. The system also features a real-time feedback system to help promote driver awareness of efficient driving habits on a daily and ongoing basis.
ECO ASSIST™
Featuring Efficiency
There are two important facets to an efficient hybrid: 1) An efficient machine, and 2) an efficient driver. Working in unison, they can dramatically enhance fuel economy.
Eco Assist™[1] is composed of two basic functions:
- A sophisticated feedback system teaches you to drive more efficiently[3],
- An ECON™ button that automatically helps increase your vehicle’s fuel efficiency[3].
These components can work individually or in tandem to help boost your overall fuel economy. As the EPA tests have shown, the Insight is capable of excellent fuel economy without any special techniques. Utilizing the tools of Eco Assist™[1] can take the Insight to higher levels of efficiency.

VALUE
The Value Story
Since the very beginning, one of the main goals at Honda has been to provide reliable, efficient transportation. The new 2010 Insight extends this objective into a new era of hybrid technology that is both affordable and accessible to everyone. To this end, the new Insight was designed to be a 5-door hybrid with high fuel economy [1], an accessible price, and superior value.
One of the ways Honda has been able to make this car so affordable is to leverage existing technologies that we have developed for and perfected in other models such as the Civic and the Fit. These include some engine and chassis components. To retain value while lowering costs also requires ingenious and imaginative engineering solutions. For that, we looked to our talented engineers—and the IMA® system.
Better Than Ever
The engine is the heart, muscle and brain of any modern automobile and, rightfully, its the most valuable part. To develop an affordable hybrid, Honda engineers took on the formidable task of cutting the cost of the engine while retaining the reliability and performance Honda is known for. The Insight's new powerplant is the latest incarnation of the innovative Integrated Motor Assist IMA® engine design. The cost-reduction measures applied to this new configuration include switching to a simpler 2-rocker cylinder head and a smaller, yet more powerful, battery pack, compared to the Civic Hybrid. The end result is an engine package that's lighter, which is very important because low weight and exceptional fuel efficiency [1] go hand-in-hand.
Because Honda engineers focused their cost-cutting measures on the engine, they were able to develop the rest of the car in a fashion that still manages to retain value and keep the price tag low. Then again, that's what Honda's always been about—providing more value, efficiency and performance for every dollar.
